Wrong answer John. The alley is approx. 80ft. and it's paved. I didn't realize the sanitation team managed themselves. I'll be sure to discuss the matter on wed morning with them. Thanks for being so helpful!

If you would like your trash rerouted, walk outside and talk to the sanitation team like I did and ask them to come down your alley.
anyways, your alley is about mile away from your house. You should like your front door pick-up.

Snooty is never coming out and seeing your neighbors. everyone but you is having their trash rerouted. hahha

This Wednesday Trash pick-up is moving to the alley for some Uptown Residents.
Why just some residents? That's like saying health care for some but not others. What's up with that? That sure does sounds a little bit snooty to me. We don't like walking thru the grass like everybody else.

This Wednesday Trash pick-up is moving to the alley for some Uptown Residents.
No more dragging the trash cans through the wet grass at 7am around to the front yard. Just pull it out to where your parking pad meets the curb.
This is a permanent change for trash pick-up.
This applies to the homes on:
1. Greenlaw Place.
2. 7th St, facing west, between Mill and Saffarans
3. Mill, between 7th St and Uptown St
4. Uptown St
I will be taking a flyer to these homes tomorrow, but wanted to let you know in case you miss the flyer.
Don't forget and remind your neighbor if they do!

No, just concerned that's all. My greatest fear living in Uptown is that MHA will let the rentals fall thru the cracks. The rental behind me has a mountain of busted up concrete from where they had to make a plumbing repair several months ago. The contractors or MHA has not bothered to come haul it off.
Iam depressed that MLGW hasn't repaired the busted water line.

Hey I asked a while back about house on the chopping block, does any one know when will the one that was featured in the commercial appeal will be put on that list. And I do hope that the list is short and quick.
The latest thing is they have a living room on the front and a den on the side and they have the kitchen on the curbside.
They were cleaning and gutting fish on the curb last night.
How long must we endure this type of behavior. Oh this is not the homeowner but his friends and family which is very very sad. The den b/c they play cards most of the day accept on the days that it rains they will move the table to the middle of the side walk and play there until.

Downtown alleys, plazas and parks are the backdrop for the upcoming Downtown Alive Fall Concerts - a new weekly series presented by five of the city’s finest local music organizations: NeoSoulville, Latino Memphis, The Folk Alliance, Blues Foundation and Goner Records! These groups have organized AMAZING talent to showcase their type of contemporary Memphis music, and each week shows move to interesting outdoor spaces to match tone with the genre of music. (scroll down to see list of talent and venues)
Through the generosity of concert sponsors - Coors, Memphis Flyer, Memphis Sound, MPACT, Memphis Music Foundation, Court Square Center, Belz Enterprises, Court Square Center, YMCA, Downtowner Magazine and La Prensa – show admission is FREE!
Shows are after work on Wednesdays from Sept 17 – Oct 15. Beer, wine, and “fair food” vending starts at 4:30 pm, music starts around 5 pm.

For the record :)....
We have placed our home for rent because my husband got an excellent job offer outside of the Memphis-area. We did not make the decision to move overnight as we LOVE the Uptown Community and feel VERY sad that we are going to be leaving an area that has shown so much progress over time! We have moved many times in the last 10 years and Memphis/Uptown is the first place we have really felt like HOME. We are choosing to keep the house (we own it) & rent it out because we feel that this community will be amazing when it is complete and with Bass Pro and the Law School it's all up-hill! We love our neighbors and friends in Memphis so this was a hard decision. As for the traffic on Mill, we have never ever had a problem in the three years that we have been here. That's all...no scandal...just life taking its course!

Bass can still back out of the deal but they will have to pay this great city a penalty. I have faith that they will stick around since they have had over 5yrs to think about it.

That should be great news for people looking for employment in the downtown area.

I agree with Betsy and Uptownmom - how on earth did they pick that house? I have never seen a wheel chair there, but even if there is a need, why not help someone who brings positive things to our community, instead of helping a home that invites excess foot traffic due to drug sales and illegal gambling...
I feel sorry for the kids that had to stand around in that yard and build that ramp. The "FUNNY" thing is, there are ALWAYS about 10 - 20 perfectly capable young men standing around in that yard that could have built that ramp for themselves - I guess they were too busy selling drugs or recovering from last nights high...

I was talking to a police officer at work today and he said that they did have undercover officers that have caught the kids that have been breaking in to the homes over here...
and it was just as i suspected i told everyone that adults had to be the ring leaders because kids cannot sell at pawn shops and adults know that they will go to jail if they get caught.
that is exactly whats been going on. these kids are around 12 years old and once they got them they ratted out the others.
these adults have the kids break in because teenagers and kids are not finger printed even when at juvenile court, so kids can rummage all through your house and touch everything and a cop cannot =match their prints.
however, these adults must not care about these kids at all what happens if they get caught and or killed while commiting these acts?
anyhoo, progress is being made and they are getting to the bottum of all these mess.

I bet they moved b/c the traffic on Mill is rediculous.
Either for that reason or b/c their house is so close

further away from the street instead of right on the curb.
The parking pad concept is especially a dud for people living on Mill.

There could be someone reading the Yak who is looking for a house to rent. What's the big dealio yo? Why are you people concerned about a house in Uptown with a for rent sign in the yard? At least a person will eventually occupy the house. right?
What we really need to be concerned about are patrols.

I hope this finds all you Uptowners doing well.
You may have heard about an initiative aimed at improving race relations - it's called Common Ground. It began last spring with more than 200 people at Rhodes College - but starting on Sept. 16, we're inviting Uptown residents who are interested in improving race relations to come to a special session of Common Ground - just for Uptown residents. The small group discussion will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 16-Oct. 21, with an action forum on Oct. 24.
Starting Sept. 5, you'll be able to go online at commongroundmemphis.org and sign up specifically for the uptown site, but if you want to get in early (there's only space for 15, and we need it to be a racially diverse group) you can e-mail me and I'll put you on an advance list.
And... I can answer any questions you may have about this initiative that I'm co-coordinator of, an effort supported by many organizations in town.
It's not just about talk - although we could use some of that - but about action too, and I'm hoping that many of y'all will be interested.
We're also looking for trained facilitators - so if you have experience teaching or leading group discussions - feel free to shoot me an e-mail too. thomasw@commercialappeal.com. Or learn more by visiting commongroundmemphis.org.
Yours on Common Ground,
Wendi Thomas

R&R and Uptownmom -
If you ever hear which youth group built that ramp, please share. When I first saw the ramp, I thought they were building a huge porch on the front of the house. Not that I have any doubt that's what the ramp will get used for. I agree. It is VERY obvious what goes on at that house. I REALLY wish it could be broken up for good.

I too saw the ramp, yesterday. There was an older couple sitting on the porch when I drove by. If this is their house then "shame on them" for letting that kind of activity go on in their home/on their property.

I saw that there was a new ramp built on that house - I can't believe kids built it! That is one of the worst houses around here for drugs/gambling/etc...- I wonder who the kids were and where they were from...yikes!!!
I just can't get over how obvious it is (the drug dealing/selling that is going on in front of that house) and that there isn't some way to stop it (catch them and arrest them).

He's probably already out. But I'm not surprised you saw him at Woodlawn and Looney.
Speaking of the "Living Room" area...anyone know what group was there working this weekend? There was a group of 10-15 young people, and it looks like they built a wheel chair ramp onto the home.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for youth helping elderly or disabled neighbors. But when the house just happens to be one of the worst in the neighborhood for drugs/gambling/insert illegal activity here…
